About Shoulders of Giants
The term “dwarfs standing on the shoulders of giants” is a Western metaphor meaning "One who develops future intellectual pursuits by understanding the research and works created by notable thinkers of the past". The same can be implied about the group Shoulders of Giants in that musically, everything has been done already… it’s up to us to develop new musical pursuits by understanding the music and musicianship of those greats before us. With a combination of odd time signatures, poly-rhythm, a solid foundation of groove and rock, as well as melodies - musically and vocally - that will stay with you well beyond the length of the actual song, Shoulders of Giants creates a style and an idea that music can be complex yet not pretentious… pleasing to the ear without being watered down. Shoulders of Giants began as the aftermath of the disbanding of the group Light Up District in April 2009. With the chemistry still being as strong as it ever was, the instrumental members of the groups continued to write together in hope of finding a vocalist that brought the same standard of musicianship and performance in tow in their travels as well as in their soul. And with the conclusion of the New Orleans band, Centerpunch, they found their voice in March of 2010. In October of 2010, they came to the conclusion that they needed a bit more... of something to complete the sound and message they were trying to get across, and in New Orleans they found that missing piece in with their second guitar player.
