Bad Weather Birds

The Bad Weather Birds are a Hampton Roads-based original progressive funk rock band. They were formed in 2014 by Brent Esber, John Mahoney, Padric Toman, and Joe Peterfeso, with Anthony LoMonaco taking over drums in the summer of 2017. Shortly thereafter in the Fall of 2017, Alfred Evans joined the band on keyboards.

Since their formation the band has recorded and released two studio albums, Reliever (2018) and Bad Weather Birds (2016), as well as two improvisation-based releases. Their original songs “Reliever”, “Mercy”, and “Straight No Chaser” have received repeated local airplay on both 89.5 WHRV’s “Out of the Box” program hosted by Paul Shugrue, 96X, and YourMusicShow. The band was invited to perform live on Out of the Box in April 2018. Bad Weather Birds' original material fuses a strong melodic sense with exciting instrumental interplay and meaningful lyrics. These originals, combined with a selection of genre-spanning cover songs, and a dose of improvisation, are the foundation of the Bad Weather Birds sound. It is the band’s goal to provide their audiences with an engaging and entertaining musical journey. Their live shows feature different setlists each night, often punctuated with original debuts and one-off covers to create a unique experience for every show they play.
