About Katie Sutherland

Katie Sutherland, once known as Pearl & The Puppets, is about to arrive with the release of her debut solo single ‘Canvas’, released via Tidal Recordings on 18th November. It’s been a journey full of experience for this charismatic young lady from Kirkintilloch, Glasgow, who having commenced studying to become a primary school teacher dropped out of University to pursue the dream career of a singer songwriter. A dream that quickly became a reality. Under the guide of Pearl & The Puppets, Katie found herself signed to Universal Republic in the US, managed by Elton John’s management team as well as a publishing deal with Warner Chappell. With co-writes from some of the biggest writers & producers in the business (Matty Benbrook, and Stephen Street to name a few) plus an enviable touring schedule that included plentiful gigs in Scotland (T in the Park, Oran Mor), plus shows with Elton John, McFly, The Hoosiers, Mika & the Sugababes, Katie’s music career was taking a direction she had not anticipated. Although her success came fast, Katie soon questioned the path that she was being taken on, and on reaching an amicable agreement, Katie moved on from her label and management company and set assail to find a new home as a solo artist. Having retaining her publishing deal, which resulted in numerous syncs into adverts with top brands including Orange, Vodafone & Hilton, Katie was soon introduced to Carl Hitchborn, founder of Tidal Recordings, an independent label offering her full artistic licence plus a management and recording. Tidal is where we now find Katie, settled and happy and in control. Having recorded her debut EP with producer Duncan Mills (Jamie Callum, Newton Faulkner, Peace) the release of ‘Canvas’ sees the beginning of a new chapter in the career of Katie Sutherland. ‘Canvas was written at a time when everything was changing. Says Katie ‘I had decided to change my stage name to Katie Sutherland and was working on a lot of new material to release. The future was exciting and I guess that's what Canvas is about. I was starting a fresh and in love. Nothing could get me down’. With a beautiful video shot on a small island, within Stokholm, Sweden by Victor Holmberg, http://youtu.be/_iK4WX_5gII, Canvas is a statement for Katie. No longer hidden behind the guise of Pearl & The Puppets, this ambitious and assured debut single, promises to propel Katie from the strong foundations she has laid towards the upper floors of mainstream recognition. To celebrate the release of Canvas, Katie will play 2 very special shows, in Glasgow at the Mackintosh Church at Queens Cross (http://www.crmsociety.com/mackintoshchurch.aspx) on 2nd of November and in London at Black Club (http://www.blacksclub.com) on 18th November.
