About Rosie Tee
Rosie Tee is a composer and performer who forges an innovative, atmospheric blend of electronica, psych and avant-pop amongst the industrial backdrop of the UK's second city, Birmingham. Her work spans explorative songwriting, immersive sound-design and writing for large-scale ensembles.
Finding joy in the experimental corners of songwriting, Tee crafts her synth-heavy sound via manipulated vocals, pedals and glockenspiel. Colourful, folkloric lyrics float above hypnotic electronic sound worlds, laced with intricate orchestrations.
Since 2018, she's collaborated closely with her quartet, touring across the UK with a line-up of offkilter synths (Piera Onacko), swarming bass (Dan Cippico) and textural drums (Kai Chareunsy). Together, they ebb and flow between digital and analogue worlds, most at home on the stage of their cinematic live performances, where they've supported artists like Stealing Sheep, Submotion Orchestra, Flamingods and The Orielles. Festival performances include Fat Out Festival, Mostly Jazz Funk & Soul and Cheltenham Jazz Festival.
This year, Tee spellbinds once more with ‘Night Creature’ - an avant-pop cryptid. The first release from her own label Kikimora Records, this six track mini-album imagines folk tales from Tee’s Polish roots through a haze of purring synths and spacious beats. Created with support from Arts Council England and Help Musicians UK.
Tee has received commissions from Coventry City of Culture and Birmingham's Commonwealth Games to create and contribute to immersive public installations. In 2023, she was invited as an artist in residence at Glasshouse International Centre for Music, Gateshead fka The Sage. Tee’s quartet have recorded at Abbey Road Studios, were nominated for Best Jazz Act by the Birmingham Music Awards and Tee was invited by BBC Introducing Live as a spokesperson on their ‘Women In Music’ panel.
Tee's previous EP 'Earth, Embrace Me In' surfaced as a love letter for a dying planet in 2021 - praised as a "truly mind-altering release" by Earmilk for its ecological message alongside airplay on BBC Radio 6.
Her orchestral-style arrangements for the band are often mirrored in her compositions for professional ensembles. Notably, Surround conducted by Julian Lloyd Webber, performed by Orchestra of the Swan and Propel performed internationally by the Dutch-ensemble Orkest De Ereprijs at Gaudeamus Festival.
