Susana Cruz

Singersongwriter begins her musical studies at the age of 6 in a family environment, learning classical guitar with her father and grandfather. In 1995 gathers with some friends and sets up a garage band and works as a composer, a guitarist and a singer. In 2002 begins her studies as an opera singer with Professor Sara Belo, at Espaço Evoé. and one year later joins the Juventude Musical Portuguesa school, where she has the opportunity to study with Professor Susana Teixeira and where stays until 2006, acting/performing as solo singer and in choir in several places. In 2005 finishes her education in Anthropology at the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences, New University of Lisbon, and becomes a research fellow at the Institute of Ethnomusicology, where she has the opportunity of working for the submission of Fado to UNESCO’s intangible cultural heritage list.
In 2009 returns to her performative studies joining JBJazz, where she has the opportunity to study voice with professores such as Carlos Barretto, Joana Machado, Daniel Hewson, among others. In the same year starts Nota Só, a cover band playing bossa nova and Portuguese music, in which she performed as a singer and a guitarist.
During 2011 is invited to become a member of the resident quartet of Páginas Tantas bar, located in Bairro Alto, Lisbon, where she performed for 9 months as a singer.
In 2012 is invited to participate in the X Festa do Jazz at São Luís Theater, representing University Lusíada along with colleagues. In 2014 finishes her Bachelor’s degree in Jazz and Modern Music (Voice), at University Lusíada, with professores such as Joana Machado, Mário Delgado, André Fernandes, Ricardo Pinheiro, Vasco Mendonça, Alexandre Diniz, among others.
In her resumé she has several performances with Classical, Jazz, Rock and Portuguese music repertoire, performing as solo singer, as a member of choir, as classical guitarist and occasionally as a percussionist.
