About Nine Mile

Nine Mile easily dissolves the lines that separate traditional genres by melding rock, funk, Caribbean, and folk influences into a high-energy groove-oriented performance. Critics have made comparisons to such legends as Paul Simon (for their dedication to melody and musicianship), and Ben Harper (for their ability to transition rock, country, folk and reggae smoothly). However, it is the captivating musicality of Nine Mile's live performances, and the strength of the songs themselves, that is turning heads.
Established in 2001, the face of Nine Mile has evolved. Founding members, frontman/guitarist D'Ari, and percussionist Dave Tolley, recently welcomed bass-stylist Marie-Josee (MJ) Dandeneau to the mix in the spring of 2005. The impact of her unique style on the electric and upright bass to Nine Mile's sound was immediately embraced.

The new threesome escaped to a hometown basement studio to capture the energy of their undeniable connection. The result of their efforts was an infectious, reggae-infused, 6-song EP, simply called, "The Almanac". This session marks the band's first time back in the studio since the recording of their sophomore LP, "Close to Touch" in 2004 with Canadian production guru, Dave Draves (Kathleen Edwards, "Failer").

With a loyal following firmly rooted in Canada, Nine Mile stretched their road legs to reach international markets.

Building on the strength of extensive Australian tours with Xavier Rudd (2005) and The Beautiful Girls (2004), Nine Mile has carved out a loyal and rapidly growing fan base Down Under. "The Almanac EP" is the band¹s first official release in Australia, and first single "The Chase:" has been picked up by a variety of local radio stations, including national broadcaster Triple J.

Nine Mile has also recently played and toured with: Lost Highway Artist Donavon Frankenreiter, Keller Williams, Gomez, Michael Franti and Spearhead, Blackalicious, Collective Soul, Sarah Harmer, The Black Keys, Cowboy Junkies.

The band returned to Australia in April/May 2006 to perform a series of huge shows around the nation with Pete Murray and Donavon Frankenreiter, as well as undertaking some select headline slots. The band will return to Canada following this tour to start work on their next full length album and plans to launch the album early in 2007.
