About Jasper Storey

"Expect some big things from that boy over the course of the next few years” - BBC Introducing

Encapsulating influence from Jeff Buckley and John Mayer, Jasper effortlessly fuses folk and funk into a custard-coloured music smoothie that will smoothly soothe your psyche. Bringing a modern edge to old school soul, his warm, earthy vocals will make you feel as if you’ve been transported to a smokey 1950's Jazz club.

The 20-year-old has played music his whole life, switching between different instruments and genres. “I started off playing piano when I was about 8, and then moved onto drums a few years later. I think from a young age I was always most influenced by rock music, which is why I started playing drums and that eventually led me onto electric guitar. I played in a couple of different bands when I was at school, but I love acoustic music and started gigging on my own around that time.”

Jasper was brought up in Bristol, and has been gigging all around the city since 2012. “The music scene in Bristol is great, I've met tonnes of talented musicians/friends whilst gigging and doing open mic nights here.” Recently he supported Liam Bailey at the city’s Thekla venue. “It was amazing to play Thekla as it’s a venue that I’ve been going to for years to watch my favourite artists, and so getting to play there myself finally was such a cool feeling.”

He also frequently performs in London - playing the O2 Academy Islington, Ronnie Scott's and The Garage, supporting Bluey Robinson.

"I try to take inspiration from as many different genres as I can when writing and performing. My music taste is all over the place. I love funk and soul music, singers like James Brown, Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder. As well as great songwriters and story-tellers like Bob Dylan, Kurt Cobain and John Lennon. I don't like being confined to listen to particular genres and things, I'll listen to anything that pleases my ears. At the moment I’m really into Anderson .Paak’s new album."

Jasper released his debut EP 'Storeys' in September 2015 to much critical acclaim (from his nan) and is currently writing and recording his second EP - which will be out in 2017!
