Son Volt

Great show! The band sounded great and was stoked to hear Trace cover to cover. Also saw Jay walking along Valencia before the show. The opener Peter was also great!

Great show. So many good songs from Trace and Day of the Doug. Jay isn't a talker so they rocked the whole time. There were some sound issues at first, but once they were resolved they sounded great. One of the best shows I've seen in a while.

It was an absolute blast! Jay Farrar was powerful, and the band was incredible!!! I loved every minute.

Jay’s nephew Jesse Farrar open with a nicely done solo 30 minute set, setting the plate for Son Volt. Turns out young Jesse is part of a bluegrass band and wrote a song for Special Consensus that won a Grammy! A super confident young man, who played acoustic guitar, sometimes along with an electronic “loop” so he could demonstrate his flat picking skills. Quit enjoyable. Jay Farrar has gathered a nice ensemble for this Son Volt collective. Journeymen Andrew Duplantis (bass) and Mark Spencer ( Norg keyboards, lap steel, and red Gibson E335-style electric) joined the newest drummer and lead guitarist. I’ll post the set list where it belongs on setlist.com. They played songs from the original 3 albums, along with at least 15 more from later albums. Highlights were Picking Up the Signal, The Globe, The Reason, and Driving the View. Since I was parked stage left, in front of Mark Spencer, I was hearing his monitor more than the House speakers. I would guess the overall sound was good, not poor or excellent. I removed earplugs after one song by Jesse Farrar, so the decibels were tolerable, maybe except for the last 2 or 3 songs. The vocals could have been clearer, maybe better enunciation, or better mic and amplified sound integrity. I give this a solid 4 out of 5. Not bad for my 2nd concert since COVID sequestration. Also, I always compare Son Volt to the original Farrar, Heidorn, Boquist brothers, with Heineman, lineup. And nothing compares favorably with that lineup and material, in my view. Solid effort Son Volt. Good vibes Lucky You Lounge. Nice party Spokanites! Can’t wait for the Spook Sisters!

The show was great. Jay played a few of his new songs & a few oldies. So glad I got a chance to Son Volt - it’s been a while...

Honestly one of the best concerts I've seen as of late. The band was so tight. They played so we'll together. Jay Farrar is iconic and has the right musicians to amplify his fantastic catalog of songs. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Well played

Son Volt just shuts up and rocks. They let the music be the entertainer and their loud amps be the side show. Fast or slow, their music puts on a show.

They sounded fantastic. The new songs rocked. The highlight was an epic extended "Ten Second News"

Awesome show! My only complaints are that I wish Farrar was a little more enthusiastic frontman, and also, the vocals were a little bit overwhelmed due to the distortion on occasion, but maybe that was just because of where I was standing. Other than that it was terrific!

Great new music. Fantastic to hear Jay with a full band and more of the electric stuff. Very excited to see them again.

A solid night of really good music. Started off with new stuff, like Cherokee and worked all the way back through several songs from Trace, and some Uncle Tupelo, like Chickamauga.

Quite possibly the best show I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot. They were firing on all 8 cylinders, totally into it. You can tell these guys have been together a while, and you can't really tell that they're not all the original members from the beginning. The music is that true to the old days. They're also one of the rare bands for me, along with the Bottle Rockets, where the new stuff is as good as their classics. And Andrea Parker, who opened, is another favorite who could headline shows like this. What a fun night, wish I could rate it six stars!
