Vaiapraia

Hailing from Portugal's Setúbal bay, Vaiapraia is a London-based DIY songwriting and performance project that, from its humble solo beginnings in 2013, has since swelled into a collective endeavour. Over the last decade a rotating cast of bandmates, collaborators, performers and experiences have combined to mimic, honor and challenge the thresholds and traditions of pop/rock songcraft. Vaiapraia's wild live shows are raucous, catchy and queer. For Portuguese-speakers, the lyrics are at once cathartic, political, and laden with poetic dissonance. For everyone else, the performance speaks for itself. Since 2019, the project morphed into the band Vaiapraia, in which Rodrigo Vaiapraia is currently accompanied by Ana Farinha, April Marmara and chica. Together, they've polished Vaiapraia's raw songwriting into a body of work that fits witty cathartic lyrics into catchy pop refrains accompanied by effusive instrumentals, all while maintaining a punk attitude and ethos.
