About Marquis Patience

De’Juan Marquis Parrish (born August 27, 1990), better known as Marquis Patience, is a singer, songwriter, producer, and engineer from Carson, CA. He began music at the age of 11 years old making beats in his bedroom. Afraid to sing, Patience would ask other people to sing on his beats. As the years pasted, his talent as an engineer, producer and songwriter grew. Patience, not even in high school yet, was working on music for grown men. Though he excelled behind the scenes, he was still afraid to sing. Eventually he began rapping and slowly started singing. He eventually started a group with his older brother and some other artist he had worked with. After the group ended and relationships with other artist he had been working with began to cease, Patience decided to make a change and focus more on his own music. It was not until the age of 15 that Patience finally decided to let go and put his voice out there.

In 2008, at the age of 17, Patience won a full-tuition scholarship to the Art Institute of California – Los Angeles for his skills as a sound engineer and producer. This gave him a chance work under Grammy Award Winning Engineers and eventually led to job offers at studios like Westlake Studios (the studio where Michael Jackson made the “Bad” album) and Serenity West Recording. Having had success and recognition as a producer and engineer, Patience was looking forward to having that same success as a singer and songwriter. In 2011, Patience was offered a single deal from Atlantic Records for his song titled “Zoom.” After many changes to the song and disagreements in the future of the song, he and the label parted ways. Patience was crushed having come so close to his dream and not being able to grab it. He took a long break from music depressed and eventually returned in 2013 under a new name, Marquis Patience. The new name was a fresh start for him.

Patience first made his debut in 2013 with his own version of “Replay” by Zendaya. The video gained more than 10,000 views and a few fans for him. He spent a little time doing covers on YouTube and working on developing his voice before he released his first original song in 4 years, title “For No One”. It was an amazing song fathered from the pain of the Atlantic Records incident that is both true to his hardships as an artist and an inspiration to everyone to just be who they are.

Since then, Patience has gone on to work with artist such as SZA, Kendrick Lamar, Rae Sremmurd, Joey Bada$$, Schoolboy Q, Jesse Boykins III, Glasses Malone, Torion Sellers and more. To this date he is still just known as a behind the scenes guy and many of the artist he has worked with does not even know he sings. He has recently made the decision to put more time into his own music and is currently working on an album of his own. Only time will tell what will happen.
