December 22nd 2022
Fillmore style floor, ticketed perimeter seating with bar service.
Sound engineer insisted on setting the very bottom frequencies at full force, resulting in bass (bass guitar and drum) shaking the venue. It sounded like the boot decks of a row of 1981 Crown Victorias. Happily I brought earplugs and firing-range ear protection. That allowed me to enjoy Jimmy’s sweet guitars and Emily. Oh Emily. Vocals, synth, and aerobics rich and dazzling!

Most of the crowd from about 20 away from stage front and center were not very high energy, until Black Sheep, and Emily encouraged singing along. Crowd in the back of the house were milling about the exit by that point.
Sound an cost the show one star from this reviewer. Koantoss

This was my 6th Metric show and one of the best. They played the perfect blend of new stuff and favorites. The venue was great too. It was SRO, so throughout the course of the show I meandered around and watched from some different vantage points.

Everything I ever wanted from a show. Emily was great, but I never realized before what a superb guitar player is ! I watched the webcast from Philadelphia four days later, and the crowd there was somewhat tame when compared to the berserk crowd in Detroit.

About Metric
The vinyl artwork for Metric’s new album, Formentera, includes a motto that sums up the past few years: This Is What Happened. It’s an understatement that manages to say everything.
Even real places become imaginary when they are so far out of reach. Named for an idyllic island near Ibiza off the coast of Spain, Formentera is a place that, for Metric, only existed on a page in a “dream destinations” travel book that lay open on a desk in the new recording studio that guitarist Jimmy Shaw built in 2020, in a rural hamlet north of Toronto. This is the setting where the band’s eighth album took shape.
Metric’s sound is both genre-defying and genre-defining. Emily Haines, Jimmy Shaw, bassist Joshua Winstead and drummer Joules Scott Key started playing together in NYC in 2001. They are just getting started.
