About Svovel

Svovel is a Norwegian symphonic metal band, combining heavy progressive guitars, drums and bass with operatic vocals and symphonic keyboard. The Svovel sound is characterized by a grand symphonic atmosphere with contrasting elements, as well as progressive tendencies and a heavy dose of madness. «We like to challenge the the boundaries of the symphonic metal genre by working with a more original and unconventional approach to the genre.» - Lead singer, Karine Jæger On the 1st of August 2016, the band released their debut album «Fading», described as a record both embracing and challenging the universe symphonic metal genre with its unusual and even bizarre, but still powerful and epic sound. Svovel is heavily influenced by the variety of each band member’s musical background, ranging from classical music to extreme metal. Though, symphonic metal bands like Nightwish, Within Temptation and Epica has probably been their biggest influence from the beginning, in putting together the pieces of their own sound. «As I’m schooled in both classical and rhythmic singing. Artists and singers like Kate Bush, Sharon den Adel and Simone Simons, amongst others, has been and will continue to be a huge inspiration and influence to my own voice and performance.» - Lead singer, Karine Jæger Svovel was formed in 2013, and has since then played a variety of venues in the Oslo Region of Norway on stages like Verkstedet, Magneten, Buddy Scene (Drammen), John Dee and Rockefeller. After being named favorites in the semi finals at the sold out show at John Dee in Oslo, Svovel rocked a jam-packed Rockefeller Music Hall in the Norwegian finals. During the course of the competition, they got recognized for their energetic live performances and charismatic lead singer. While writing and recording «Fading», Svovel also entered the band competition Global Battle of the Bands 2015, and rocked their way to the Norwegian Finals at John Dee with awesome reviews and feedback. In August 2016, Svovel held the release concert for «Fading» at a packed Verkstedet Bar in Oslo. The night was a huge success and a highlight in the band’s career so far.
