About High Times

This Is Heartache, July 2011 Media Release: On the eve of releasing their new album 'This Love Electric', Melbourne-based Matt Sonic & The High Times bring you ‘This Is Heartache’—7 inches of limited edition, cherry red vinyl loaded with undeniable conviction. From the splendidly descriptive and introspective verses to the hard-hitting reality of the chorus, ‘This Is Heartache’ rolls like a wounded bull, gathering speed down a thick mountain. ‘This Is Heartache’ is the perfect appetizer for the highly anticipated and welcomingly rocking album This Love Electric, set for release this Spring. While the single will not feature on the album, it introduces the High Times in the format they adore—vinyl. This release follows Matt Sonic’s debut LP Revelator (2009), the ‘Break Free Your Mind’ CD single in 2010 and the Matt Sonic & The High Times self-titled US-only tour CD of early 2011. In only two years Matt Sonic & The High Times have dragged their heavy psychedelic riffs all over Victoria, Tasmania, New South Wales and Los Angeles. From the middle of a cloud at the top of Mt Hotham, to 42 degree heat at Big Day Out, and from a wild Boogie Festival to poolside in sunny California, the High Times live up to their name, gig after gig. ‘This Is Heartache’ is the first release from the new Cherry Rock 7” Single Club, launched in Melbourne’s spiritual home of Rock and Roll, Cherry Bar. History: Matt Sonic began a music career at a Brisbane musical institution, Red Zeds Studios, in early 1996, cutting a demo with musical maestro David Atkins in the wee hours of the morning. The demo, Rebel Riders From Mars, would form a template of the deep and subsonic sounds that have become trademark of his bands that followed through the next 10years. Late 2008 saw Matt touring Australia, from Coober Pedy to Coolangatta playing bass for Magic Dirt, and writing a debut solo album in the back seat of a Holden Commodore. Recorded in 2 sessions at Headgap Studios under the watchful eye of engineer Brent “Sloth” Punshon, and produced by Matt, “Revelator” will be released on Sonic Sound Records during Winter of 2009. It features exciting guest performances by friends Adalita, Raul Sanchez, Dean Turner and Adam Robertson of MAGIC DIRT, Sly Faulkner of the SPLATTERHEADS, Ali Edmonds of LITTLE ATHLETICS, Edward Fraser of THE MOURNING SONS and Andy Mudge of MOCK TURKEY. In a time of digital unperformance, schlick production and hits on the download, “Revelator” has been recorded authentically on 2” tape, mixed with no automation or editing and is a breath of fresh air in these days of cut and paste.
