The Guitars

The South Bay of Los Angeles, also known as the “Cradle of Surf Music,” spawned many a surf band in the sixties and seventies. Few of these bands have survived through the past four decades in “mint condition” like The Guitars. With seasoned musicianship and exhilarating performances, The Guitars offer an oldies banquet of R&B, British Invasion, West Coast Rock and Blues. His soulful voice, vocal range, and guitar playing has made him a prominent musical figure in the South Bay music scene. Lead Guitar Player, Robert Woodruff. It all started for Robert when his older brother, Virgil, brought home a guitar and he saw the Beatles and the Stones on the Ed Sullivan Show. After bouncing around from one crappy band to another, he joined the Guitars who were tightest band in the South Bay. Known for their dedication to the quality and detail of the music -- Robert's never looked back. Bass Player, Mike Stevens originally a guitar player took up bass about 19 years ago. Influenced early on by surf music and rock, Mike has been in the guitars for the last few years. Drummer, Kim Koch, has been Eddie's drummer for over 35 years. A founding member of the guitars has also been a part of the South Bay music scene since the early 70's. Kim also doubles as the band's manager. Sax player, Robin Rader, has recently joined The Guitars. Performing since the seventies and signed to Polygram with her band, Sugahh, in the eighties, Robin has enjoyed a background including jazz, rock and classical.
