About William Alexander

Born in Bourke, NSW, William grew up in the western country of New South Wales, forming in him a heart that feels and eyes that see the plains, trees and red dust stained skies of outback Australia as songs and stories. Musical presence in the house varied from his father’s love of 80s rock bands to his mother’s introduction to Elvis Presley and Nat King Cole. But it was the elders in the community introducing the young fella to country and western singers like Tex Morton, Buddy Williams, Slim Dusty and all the old Australian and American folk song traditions that seemed relevant, so it remained. Though William’s family relocated to the Mallee country of North West Victoria when he was a young teenager, he maintained an intense physical and spiritual connection with the land of red dirt that he first came from.

The captivating voice and guitar picking of 23 year old folk/western singer William Alexander are fast becoming more and more recognizable in the Australian music industry through his roaming performance tours across many stages as well as through many a turntable as folks go about their lives with his AIR Award nominated record “The Kid From Bourke” painting the backdrop.
Folks will now be able possess a new piece of work from the yodelling songster in the form of his brand-new extended play release, “Garlic Pickin’ Time”. The EP was released on September 20th 2019 through Melbourne based independent record label Green South Records. It is the second offering from the partnership of Alexander and recording engineer and owner of Sound Recordings Alex Bennett (C.W. Stoneking, Archer). Recorded live in the Campbells Creek studio on Saturday February 2nd 2019 with Cat Moser (Cat and Clint) returning to her regular role on the fiddle as well as Steve James (Slippry Sid) on the Hawaiian style steel guitar and dobro.
“You can smell the dirt and campfire smoke in William’s music. He paints the shining of the stars and the sigh of a gum tree with a vivid conjuring that can only come from years living life on the land, wandering the bush, studying the dance of the seasons and the pace of the kangaroo.
The hopeful desperation of the garlic picker, the steadfast loyalty of an ever-lovin' pal, the chaotic confusion of heartbreak so deep the sky loses its stars. All these characters are portrayed with the kind of conviction born of a life lived and reflected on.
William will sing you so deep in to the land and the sky that you’ll forget what else there is.”
Aimee Volkofsky - ABC Radio, Bush Witch Records.
The initial EP launch concert tour will take place from late September through to late October with concert dates through NSW and VIC before it will literally be garlic pickin’ time and William will be headed home for the harvest only to return to touring the release at the end of this year and into the next.
