About J Terrel
Coming out of a small town in South Georgia, Jonathon Eley has always been determined to move forward in the music industry.
In 2013, following the release of his mixtape, Eley announced that he would be releasing his first major single and it was released on October 22, 2013. Shortly after the release of "Gravity" he released his debut EP "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly" September 23, 2014.
On May 5, 2014, Ryan Lewis of Macklemore & Ryan Lewis announced he would be hosting a beat battle competition with David Buffalo Bitton. In an interview following the win at the beat battle, Eley stated that he submitted his single "Gravity" not knowing he would be selected as one of the 12 finalists for the beat battle. After winning the competition, Eley's career took a turn for the best receiving media coverage by MTV, The Grammy Awards, Rolling Stone magazine and The XXL magazine. He was also featured in the June 16, 2014 issue of the Star magazine.
Eley released his second EP “This is Easy” on November 4, 2016. Shortly after its release, he announced that he was beginning to work on his debut album, which is set to be released in July 2017.
“It’s some of my best music to date,” Eley said about the music on his album. “I hope to start a conversation with the content discussed in this album.”
Eley has also had a successful career in producing. Eley worked with America’s Got Talent semifinalist Jaycob Curlee and produced a full-length album, Things I Never Said, on July 24, 2016. Things I Never Said reached No. 10 in the Singer/Songwriter charts on iTunes the day of its release. The single for the album, “Sleeping to Dream,” has since reached over 500,000 streams on Spotify. Eley also collaborated with Curlee to produce and release an EP together, “Unorthodox Mentality,” which made its debut in the charts March 26, 2017.
Eley’s diverse skillset and knowledge in producing has allowed him to work with several artists in various genres of music.
In the summer of 2017, Eley released his debut album, After the Internet. The album demonstrated Eley’s diverse musical background in both the production and song lyrics. Eley also depicted his take of what the world is like in 2017, all the while foreshadowing a bigger message that ties into Eley’s upcoming second album. Eley says his After the Internet album has influences of “jazz, rock and gospel music“ while also crediting Childish Gambino for the album’s inspiration.
