Great singer. Very good support acts. Intimate. Excellent acoustics.

Honestly one of the best gigs we have been to. Katey’s voice is so accurate and pure, so full of emotion; just beautiful. Anna’s harmonising was meshed so tight that you would believe they are sisters, and at times sounded like a separate instrument, a cello bowed in perfect tune to Katey’s soaring top line. The warmth of a telecaster played finger style was lovely and the perfect backdrop, and the slightly brighter tone of the acoustic only lifted things further. I do love a lyric and Katey’s songwriting is rich with meaning and intent. I’ll be looking up the words and following them on the recordings - I sometimes feel like it’s only me left that does this, but I’m happy to be thus afflicted when it reveals the songwriter’s art so clearly. The set was perfectly varied in style - folk/blues/country all coming through nicely - no fillers in here; every single one was beautiful. Oh, and she writes a great middle 8 too, bit jealous of that! So, you know, although I’m rather late on parade having only just discovered Katey Brooks, I’m a something of a fan now (does it show?), and we’ll certainly be seeing her again. Worth travelling for… Cambridge Junction J3 is a great little venue, laid out this time in jazz-club style, with small tables and pairs of chairs. The unplugged section where Katey and Anna came forward and sat on the ground to sing was a rare treat. I only worry that the audience was a bit low in number, but Katey didn’t let this affect her performance - you get the feeling that she’ll sing the songs like that in an empty auditorium, and that’s probably because they carry such personal meaning. And, selfishly, it was a total privilege to be involved in such an intimate concert. Perfect.

Lovely to hear this talented singer/songwriter present songs from her new album in such a beautiful theatre. This was the third time I have seen her but the first with a full band. The sound was excellent, the lighting allowed us to see all the musicians and singers. I loved every moment, my only regret is that there was only one song as an encore before the band departed, never to return.
