How do you describe somebody who is at the same time an old friend, and was a lover, and was a complicated part of my past, and maybe, just maybe, a part of my future? Henry Luther's been caught somewhere between folk-punk and Americana since 2018, when he dropped his first self-produced record and began sporadically booking shows across the Southeast with his revolving-cast backing band the Blackouts. His country-tinged folk songs, which span John Prine social commentary, Bob Dylan free association, and Hank Williams classic country, find unity in performances that channel the chaotic energy of the early Avett Brothers. He plans to follow up 2023's Live at Fresh Brewed and 2024's Live Vol. 4. with Highway 321 in Mono, a concept album loosely based on the stretch of Highway 321 in South Carolina between Norway and Denmark. The teeming metropolis of Columbia, South Carolina serves as the base of operations for Henry Luther & the Blackouts.
