About Kairo
Kairo were a rock'n'roll band based in Tampere. They advertised themselves as Finland's most big-nosed band, and apparently they even chose the name Kairo for themselves because drummer Tapio Partanen resembled a sphinx.
Keyboardist Jukka and guitarist Jarno Järvinen, and bassist Sami Ruusukallio had a past in rocker/troubadour Jukka Törmä's backing band Omuna.
Kairo only produced three singles. The biggest success was the first, "Rakkaani myy bensaa" (1984). Slightly silly lyrics and song titles, Sidi Mäki-Laurila's good vocals and Jukka Järvinen's keyboard work gave the music character. Still Kairo were never more than a moderate local success.
The second single "Tervetuloa jäätaloon" (1985) has more prominent keyboards, but the song itself is weaker than the debut. It might be the reason why they tried a female keyboardist and decided to let Pantse Syrjä from Eppu Normaali produce the third single "Sua kaipaamaan jäin" (1986). A big mistake. Syrjä also played guitar on the single, and as a result "Sua kaipaamaan jäin" sounds exactly like an Eppu Normaali song. A pity, because the song is actually better than their first single.
