About Misja Fitzgerald Michel

Guitarist Misja Fitzgerald Michel was born in Rotterdam in the Netherlands and raised in Paris. He was a student of François Jeanneau's jazz class at the Paris National Conservatory of Music. He then studied in 1993 at the New School in New York with Jim Hall, Billy Harper and Kenny Werner. He began playing at that time with Ravi Coltrane and with many other musicians from the New York & Paris scene. Misja appeared in various jazz festivals (Montreal, Marciac, JVC Festival in Paris, Jazz à Vienne, Nancy Jazz Pulsations, Nice Jazz Festival, Banlieues Bleues). He recorded five albums since 1998. In 2006, his 4th album “Encounter” with Drew Gress, Jochen Rueckert and Ravi Coltrane was nominated for the “Django d'or de la guitare". His last album recorded with Meshell Ndegeocello, Olivier Koundouno, Nicolas Repac and Hugh Coltman is a tribute to Nick Drake, the English singer & songwriter. The album was nominated for the “Victoires du jazz » in 2012. Misja is a former guitar professor of jazz studies at the conservatory of music of Paris-Saclay and at the conservatory of music of Cergy-Pointoise.
