About Megacity Swing Band - Toronto

Formed in 1998, the Toronto Megacity Swing Band is an 18-piece jazz orchestra that performs both the songs made famous by the big bands of the '30s and '40s as well as modern works in the swing style.

The band has performed for dances, fund-raisers, and both private and public events at prestigious venues including the Thornhill Country Club, Lampton Country Club, Bayview Country Club, Royal Ontario Museum, and Casa Loma. The Toronto Megacity Swing Band wowed the crowd at the 2002 City of Toronto Winterfest celebration, was a featured performer on City TV's "Breakfast Television" and in the summer of 2004, once again enthralled a packed audience at Mel Lastman Square.

Some noted highlights for the band include being chosen ‘Best in Class’ at the 2001 CNE Big Band Festival, during which the talented vocalist Sandy Faux was presented with the ‘Best Vocalist’ Award. During the 2003 Georgian Sound Big Band Festival, solo trumpeter Ron Vander Wees received the ‘Best Soloist of the day’ award, while during the 2004 Georgian Sound Big Band Festival; the entire trumpet section received the ‘Best Trumpet Section’ award, while the Saxophone section captured the ‘Best Saxophone Section’ award during the Canadian Band Association’s Annual Festival of Bands.
