About Screamin' Miss Jackson & The Slap Ya' Mama Big Band

When SCREAMIN' MISS JACKSON started as a band just 4 short years ago there was never a big plan. Fun was the objective and they started out cutting their teeth playing instruments unfamiliar to them and unpopular with some, finding their feet with well known and obscure songs of dubious prominence that were known to many or more often few before the outbreak of WW2. Now, here at the back end of 2016 the band find themselves sitting with 4 years of Festivals behind them (Glastonbury, Wilderness, The Great Escape, Boomtown, Shambala to name a few), Playing UK Tours with the likes of CW Stoneking, The Deslondes, Hank Wangford, Reverand Peyton and the Big Damn Band, Rob Heron and the Tea Pad Orchestra, and their debut album 'I HEARD THE VOICE OF A DONUT' out on Little Paradise Records. It has been a busy time constantly changing. The Bristol 6 piece draw on various influences including Vintage Rock and Roll, Rhythm and Blues, Pre-War Jazz, Country, Hokum and Swing to produce a delightful melange of sounds and topics, delivered to you in unqiue style by April Jackson's Golden Era vocals. Screamin' Miss Jackson are Old Souls in Young Bodies, the past always at heir fingertips. Pass by at your Peril! Press for - I Heard the Voice of a Donut My mind still boggles at just how any band can accommodate so much talent in terms of writing, arranging, vocals and the incredible playing. This is a great album by a unique and highly original band that is at the top of its game. Can't wait for their next recording! - American Roots Uk “Chock full of good time tunes” - NARC Magazine “Somewhere Between Old Time and Good Time” - B 24/7 “As mischievous as they are a good-hearted” - Global Texan Chronicles Their infectious sound is quite compelling and you would never know that the musicians are all based in this current century and located far away from the original influences of this vibrant music. An impressive debut and augers well for a future that will grow in a positive direction. - Lonesome Highway UK take on the New Orleans street sound, elements of Country, Skiffle, Jazz, Western Swing all mixed up together.
