About Greg Steps
Greg Steps is a folk/ country singer-songwriter, currently residing in Melbourne, Australia. Accompanying himself on guitar, piano and harmonica, Steps is a modern day story teller with songs that evoke the vast desolate landscape of Australia’s barren interior. With his distinctive voice, unique songs and enthralling live shows, he has proven himself to be a true original.
While following in the tradition of archetypal singer-songwriters such as Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Jackson Browne and Bruce Springsteen, Steps also draws influence from various Australian bands of the 1980's, such as The Go-Betweens, The Triffids and Paul Kelly & The Coloured Girls.
Steps' grew up in Brisbane, teaching himself guitar on his dad’s old Yahama acoustic. After leaving high school he played in a range of indie and folk-rock bands, all the while chipping away at his burgeoning song-writing talent. In 2013 Steps moved to Melbourne to become a solo-artist, releasing his first EP 'Always a Drifter' the following year. In its wake he undertook a string of shows in Melbourne and regional Victoria, where he won over crowds both large and small.
2016 saw the addition of a new backing band, 'The Not for Prophets', bringing together the talents of Bob Hutchison (guitar), Olivia Hand (piano), James Kemp (bass) and Aoife Murphy (fiddle). With these musicians by his side, Steps released his second EP, ‘The Overland’ in early 2017 to high acclaim and regular airplay on community radio stations.
Presently Steps continues to gig at a relentless pace throughout Melbourne and regional areas, all the while preparing for his next release, due sometime in 2019.
