Smirking Revenge

Bands like Voivod, Cryptopsy, Katakylsm and Gorguts, amongst many others, demonstrates how much Quebec swarms with metal bands and how the exportation of musical talent is renowned. This scene thrives, and a recent outfit proves it once again : Smirking Revenge. The band was formed in 2012, in the area of Montreal. The girls, then living in 4 different cities, maintained regular rehearsals and started to make gigs in 2014 even though no album was released at that time. In December 2014, they released their debut EP entitled “Mind Uploading”. They made various shows in the Quebec and Ontario province, to promote it, in that year. They also took part in festivals such as GothFest and Trailer Trash Fest. Meanwhile, in 2015, they started working on new songs, and some of them were played live. In September 2016, they entered the studio for their first full-lenght record “Disastearth’, released on March 10th 2017. The band’s sound has evolved from brutal death metal to darkened/death metal, with more melodic and clean guitar parts. Their lyrics contain social/political messages as well as emotional expression and poetry. Visuals are an important element of the band. The girls wear facepaint/costumes, becoming characters to spark the imagination. Modern warriors with instruments as weapons, they break stereotypes, representing emancipation and the strength of Quebecker women. In 2017, Smirking Revenge will make shows in differents cities of Quebec to promote “Disastearth’’. In the meantime, they will also work on songs for their next album.
