Jake Stanton Music

Jake Stanton is a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Kansas City. His songs, which are best categorized as indie folk or americana, offer a unique, yet relatable take on the modern human condition.
Often posing a question or directing a train of thought, his lyrics engage the listener with ambiguity. Stanton often uses the subject of internal dialogue in a way that anyone can relate to their own story.
Stanton first started writing as a teenager. It wasn’t long before he was floating around Kansas City playing open mics (even hosting one at nineteen) and attending shows, making lasting relationships with other musicians in the area. These relationships turned into gigs over the next few years as Stanton began playing with active groups, taking on the challenge of any instrument that he could manage to land a job with.
All the while, Stanton worked on forming his first project, Junkyard Genius. This project was short-lived, only producing one release, “On a Ship EP”, which was released independently in 2015.
In 2016, after a year of refining his songwriting, Stanton released his first solo EP, “Alone Talk” in April. On this release, Stanton worked closely with Ashley Raines, who produced the EP and helped to bring the idea of these folk songs to their full potential. Raines contributed instrumental performances on the album as well. Following the release of “Alone Talk”, Stanton spent the spring and summer touring the west coast and midwest in support of the album.
Stanton continues to work with other musicians around the KC area and beyond, and is currently in pre-production for his next release, expected some time next year
