We had a great time - Miss Roberts - the face of Rude Mechanicals - was absolutely splendid - chatting with the audience and even joining them on the dance floor.
SPeW introduced new drummer Dave Morgan - with them for the first time - not that you'd know as the band was so very tight with Gardyloo Spew herself on great form.
The Star Nosed Moles have a great sound, a classic "powerhouse trio" rocking out - blues based and psych tinged- driven by Jeff Bloom's drums.
An oddity of the night was a comedy Bingo interlude (between the 'Moles and SPeW) of about 30 minutes, apparently a Saturday night favorite of Trades Hall members. Many enjoyed it but it made for a strange hiatus in proceedings...

About Rude Mechanicals
Tom Robinson (BBC6 Music) described us as “wild, wicked weirdness... a little bit Flying Lizards, a little bit Native Hipsters and a great deal like nothing you've heard before..." We like that! Miss Roberts is the leader and her flamboyant persona has become the look of the band. She has put together an act that combines surreal stories, poetry and songs. The full band is a 5-piece, but happily capable of adapting to more intimate settings as a duo or trio.
Long term collaborator Cos Chapman has been with the band since inception - co-writing, arranging, mixing, engineering and playing guitar he also performs and records with Alternative TV, SPeW and The Maps Collective. Jowe Head (Television Personalities, Swell Maps etc..) is currently our “gadget man” adding sonic delights from home made acoustic instruments and mini-synths to the mix. He’s also found the time to write several songs for the band - amazing considering all the projects has got on the go! Jeff Bloom (TVPs, Star Shaped Mole) is on drums and Marina Young (Demi Monde, Zen Grenade) on Bass.
The band has featured in Bizarre Magazine, is played regularly on Resonance FM, and had national airplay on as well as being picked up Irwin Chusid - Journalist and DJ of New York's WFMU Radio.Other collaborators include Mark Perry of Alternative TV and Sexton Ming, while Everett True (Village Voice) and Rob Ellis (PJ Harvey, Spleen) have all had nice things to say about them!
