About The Mercy Kills

Mix two parts dirty rock with two parts sex punk and you get a four shot cocktail called THE MERCY KILLS. Mark E (Guitar/Vocal), Jen X (Bass/Vocal), Nathalie Gelle (Guitar/Vocal) and Josh Black (Drums/Vocal) joined forces in the summer of 2008. Their tastes in music, the desire to write great songs and blast out a killer live show were the key factors shared by this four piece outfit. Some have described TMK as Dirty Rock, blending elements from bands such as Sonic Youth, The Cramps, Nine Inch Nails, The Cult and Joy Division. THE MERCY KILLS took their name from a line in The Rocky Horror Picture Show. “It was a mercy killing”. 2009 saw this bratty new outfit emerge writing songs, recording and getting as much stage time together as they could inject into their already heart pounding system. In early 2010 THE MERCY KILLS released the single Wasting/Save closely followed by their EP, New Rule. The St Kilda Festival and Cherry Rock Festival in Melbourne came next, playing with Rose Tattoo in AC/DC Lane, Melbourne. 2011 was a busy year for TMK with more recording, interstate shows, live to air performances on radio and TV. In June THE MERCY KILLS shared the stage with YOU AM I and TUMBLEWEED playing to a crowd of 15,000 for the Reclink Community Cup. In December TMK launched two singles made up of new material and tracks from their previous New Rule EP. The four songs I Wanna/New Rule and Can't Stop/Fall were released as a new offering in the lead up to the next EP. A video for 'I Wanna' has also been shot by Melbourne rock photographer Carbie Warbie. As 2011 drew to a close, the icing on this Rock'n'Roll cake of a year came in the form of an interview with the legendary NEW YORK DOLLS. Australian Musician Magazine invited TMK to interview the DOLLS for its December issue. Another highlight was joining LE BUTCHERETTES with Teri Gender Bender and OMAR RODRIGUEZ-LOPEZ (At The Drive In/ Mars Volta) for a show at the Northcote Social Club. TMK were also invited to play LE BUTCHERETTES after party in Melbourne. The band then blasted into 2012 with a dose of deadly new songs and killer shows. THE MERCY KILLS launched their new EP titled 'Say You Do'. This EP contains five tracks and is out through MGM and iTunes. The title track 'Can't Stop' is featured on the soundtrack of a new Australian movie called Murderdrome. Murderdrome is the worlds first Rollerderby/slasher/zombie film. The video for 'Can't Stop' has been made by Murderdrome producer Daniel Armstrong's Strongman Pictures. In early 2013 TMK performed a coveted ‘festival day’ slot at the St.Kilda Festival. They also landed further international supports joining DEATHSTARS (Sweden) on their Australian tour and supported KILLING JOKE for their Aust/NZ singles tour. 2013 saw the release of the ‘Don’t Give It Up/Little Mercy’ single and long awaited ‘I Wanna’ video as a precursor to their much anticipated album ‘Happy To Kill You’. A support slot for DEF FX and an appearance at CHERRY FEST ended 2013 with a bang. 2014 punched in with shows supporting Misfits and Mi-Sex. A video for 'Can't Stop' featured on the ’Murderdrome’ dvd was also wrapped up in early 2014. The band then hit the studio to record their third E.P. 'Paradise Motel', then smashed it out supporting grunge rock queen 'Courtney Love' for a seven city Australian tour. More recently, TMK have had another song chosen by the creators of the movie Murderdrome. The song 'Don't Give It Up' from the TMK debut album 'Happy To Kill You' features on the soundtrack of new Australian film, From Parts Unknown- FIGHT LIKE A GIRL by Strongman Pictures. The Mercy Kills are currently writing for their next release and have two new videos ready to go for a killer 2015. This is the official facebook page for THE MERCY KILLS.
