About Larissia Murphy
The daughter of a coal miner turned preacher, Larissia Murphy was born and raised in the rolling mountains of eastern Kentucky. Singing came naturally to her as a young child as she was captivated by the classic country sounds she found on her parents’ turntable.
As a teenager, she was turned on to the off-the-beaten-path country troubadours as well as the golden 70’s sounds of Laurel Canyon. Looking to classic artists such as Joni Mitchell, John Prine, The Beatles, Laura Nyro and Emmylou Harris, Larissia found herself writing her own songs.
Not content to spend her days in the isolated, yet nurturing, hollers of Kentucky, she was eager to leave at her earliest opportunity. Now residing in Nashville, she has continued to passionately develop her voice and songs.
Though her musical style is an amalgamation of classic country, 60’s folk and early 70’s pop, Larissia believes “at the end of the day, it’s all about the song. That’s all there is.”
With a voice that evokes the haunting lonesomeness of the Kentucky hills and the breeziness of her Laurel Canyon dreams, it is impossible not to feel her honesty and heart in every word. Her voice is powerful and expansive, fragile and clear.
The raven-haired singer/ songwriter’s live performance is also a captivating oneof-a-kind. Mysterious and dynamic. At one moment she is beautifully austere, then suddenly magnetic and vivacious; inviting all who listen to come live in the song with her.
A good song can inspire you to dream bigger and live fuller. By distilling personal experiences and tribulations into her words and music, she delivers honest and thought provoking messages. Larissia Murphy reminds us that life promises us hardships and heartache, but love can still be found in all of the broken places.
...And when she sings it, you know she’s lived it
