About Fábio Fernandes
Fábio Fernandes began classical guitar lessons from the age of 11 with Francisco Gomes in Viana do Castelo, Portugal. Since then Fábio fell in love with the world of the classical guitar and performance leading him to move to London where he completed his Undergraduate studies Bmus (Hons) at the prestigious Guildhall School of Music & Drama in 2018.
Fábio is currently on a Masters in Classical Guitar Performance at the same institution under the guidance of Robert Brightmore and David Miller.
He is generously supported in his studies by the Henry Wood Accommodation Trust, the Charity of Mary Barnes and by Help Musicians UK.
Fábio has participated in masterclasses with Ignacio Rodes, Máximo D. Pujol, Antigoni Goni, Margarita Escarpa, Graham Devine, Eduardo Martín, Julian Byzantine, Douglas Rodgers, Jacob Heringman, Michel Sadanowsky, and Artur Caldeira.
Besides obtaining 2nd and 3rd prizes in several national and international competitions in Portugal, Fábio has performed many solo, ensemble and choir concerts all around Portugal and several in England, Czech Republic and Poland. Fábio had two performances of J. Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez with piano accompaniment in Prague, Czech Republic (April 2018); and 3 performances of A. Vivaldi's Concerto in D major RV93 with the Baltic Neopolis Orchestra academy string quartet in Poland (June 2018).
Fábio is regularly invited to play solo or with some other musicians both for academic and professional activities, as well to give classes and lectures to other young musicians.
Alongside his studies of the traditional guitar repertoire, Fábio is also highly engaged with song writing, encouraging young composers to write for the guitar and the exploration of early music. He started studying the lute and theorbo in 2015 with David Miller and James Johnstone.
