About Chris Baum Project
THE CHRIS BAUM PROJECT IS A SEASONED SOUL/R&B BAND IN THE WEST COAST MUSIC SCENE.
In response to fan requests, the Chris Baum Project has prepared special edition performances featuring the music of Steely Dan and Donald Fagen. Selections range from the debut album, Can’t Buy A Thrill, through the most recent releases (including several choice cuts from the solo works of Donald Fagen). Look for these performances starting the later half of 2016.
Chris Baum has been a fixture in the Pacific Northwest music scene since his youth, as a classical pianist, winning local, regional, and national competitions. Since then, Chris has morphed into a soulful singer/pianist inspired by his idols Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Donald Fagen, Johnny "Guitar" Watson and the many singers of Tower of Power.
Since 1994, Chris has exercised and honed master band leading and musical arrangement skills to attract 'cream of the crop' talent to realize inherently lofty musical goals.
Chris Baum's Project is currently a 12-piece Soul/R&B band; however there are over 40+ musicians that are proud to be a part of the Baum Sorority/Fraternity. At almost every performance there are former members showing up to sit-in with the band. The Chris Baum Project measures its success not by who is dancing, but by how many people are moving to the performance. Many regular attendees of the Project’s performances are there to take in the show as a 'concert'—not necessarily to dance at all—a testament to the band’s ability to entertain on the merits of musical prowess, Chris' arranging chops, and most importantly, the ability of the band to stretch out and ‘play’ — giving the performances an organic quality not often heard.
The Chris Baum Project’s members have performed with local artists, including: Body and Soul, Soul Vaccination (founded by Chris Baum in 1994), Curtis Salgado, Paul Delay, Tom Grant, and Nu Shooz; and have shared stages with national acts, including Boz Scaggs, Anthony Jackson, Ry Cooder, The Drifters, The Chiffons, and Cheap Trick.
Members include:
Keyboards: Chris Baum
Vocals: Chris Baum, Alyssa Schwary, Debbie Earnhart, Brandon Buck
Horns: Pete Peterson, Greg Garret, Michelle Medler, Bryan Dickerson, Dan Goldstein
Guitar: Mike Doolin
Drums: Doug Knoyle
Bass: Calen Uhlig
Percussion: Les Hutchinson
The Chris Baum Project's repertoire covers music from the great Soul and R&B artists of the modern era, and includes songs by Stevie Wonder, Sly and the Family Stone, Dr. John, Steely Dan, Average White Band, Bill Withers, Chicago, Earth, Wind, and Fire, Johnny "Guitar" Watson, Amy Winehouse, Etta James, Michael Jackson and many more.
