Minneapolis indie-rock quintet Poolboys sound has a simmering, slow-burning charm. The five elegantly refined tracks that comprise the groups self-titled EP showcase singer Seth Conovers self-deprecating personal observations (including the long-term effects of exposure to pornography), which are complemented by textured, blossoming arrangements. Poolboy honed their adventurous psych-rock sound by gigging around town with a wide array of young bands who inspire one another. As a result, the shows have gotten tighter since their record-release party in 2016. The occasional new songs that pop up during Poolboys live sets hint that a new release is imminent, and hopefully, the group can build on the promise suggested by their captivating and inventive debut. - City Pages
