John Van Deusen put on a warm, intimate house show to a room of roughly 30 people. The set list ranged across his many releases, including a few songs from his most recent album, "As Long As I Am in The Tent of This Body i will Make a Joyful Noise." He even included a few unreleased songs, which indicated his creative impact will continue. It was just him on an acoustic guitar with a small pedal board, and that guy was able to make a lot of music. The host home showed a true gift of hospitality with coffee and desserts freely available to all in attendance. It was well worth the drive, and if JVD is in your area, drop everything and go see him. His studio production is great on his recordings, but his talent really shines through in the live setting.

John Van Deusen

John Van Deusen creates aggressively honest, thematically rich power pop. His style is built on a strange foundation of influences, resulting in an indie rock sound that feels both familiar and curious. From his early career in The Lonely Forest (Trans/Atlantic Records) to his recent outings as a solo recording artist, intimacy and vulnerability have been hallmarks of his songwriting. John Van Deusen will release (I Am) Origami Pt. 3 - A Catacomb Hymn on July 19 through Tooth & Nail Records and DevilDuck Records (EU/CA). For this album and its forthcoming sequel, Van Deusen teamed with producer and friend Andy D. Park (Pedro the Lion, Deep Sea Diver).

John Van Deusen currently lives in Anacortes, Washington, with his wife and cat, and helps run a board game store. He also yells and plays bass in the hardcore punk band BUFFET.
