About Freaks Of The Sea
Christopher Thompson and Alec Berkley started Freaks of the Sea in December of 2015. On July 2nd, 2016 Freaks of the Sea released their first EP, Mercurial. 13 years earlier, Alec & Chris met playing music with a mutual friend, Chet Malinow. Chet Malinow does all the art and design work for Freaks of the Sea. The three of them gathered at Chet's parents' over the top, artsy house and discovered music. They grew up playing music together. 13 years later, in December of 2015, Chris reached out to an old friend, Alec Berkley, who was living in Long Beach, California and asked if he could crash on his couch while visiting a dear friend in the hospital. Chris's friend was fighting for his life after breaking his neck in a freak water slide accident. Alec said yes, but insisted they record some music together during the trip. In agreement, Chris texted him a voice memo of a song he had written titled, "Twice the Woman." While in California, between hospital visits, Alec and Chris wrote, jammed, and recorded "Twice the Woman." July 2nd 2016, Freaks of the Sea dropped Mercurial. Chris's friend survived a 7-month stint in the hospital and made it home to Portland. Freaks of the Sea released Mercurial in Portland. Portland, Oregon is where it all began. In October of 2016, Chris moved to Long Beach, CA to officially join musical forces with Alec. After a year and a half in California, Freaks of the Sea decided to go back to their roots in Portland, OR where they are recording and producing a full length album. Welcome to the noise aquarium
