About PaperTrails
In spring 2013, Matt Poli and Lucas Drever decided to stop playing guitar alone in their basements. With the plan to choose music as their careers, they figured this was a good first step.
The jams together were good but were missing something. That’s when Matt, feeling lonely, lacking and “oomfless” decided to add more instruments. He called up Chris Sallis-Leon whom he’d met at the Roxy while with Alternative Funk band ‘Men of the West’ and Chris with – and still with – kick ass Progressive Rock band ‘Maya’.
Chris, a freak of nature drum geek, signed on and brought with him Les Hill, a tattooed mysterious groove master on the bass.
Suddenly Lucas looked up from his frets and realized he was in a band. All they needed now was a vocalist, and while a few came and went, the band finally landed Miss Virginia Rose with her bluesy-reggae swag.
The band released their first EP in November 2013 with vocalist, Teile “like the colour” Iantorno, and found their spot in Vancouver’s Blues-Rock scene. That EP can be found on the band’s soundcloud, [papertrailsband].
Over the last year, the band has booked gigs around the Lower Mainland, and started writing new material for their upcoming EP. But outside of the band, individually they’ve also been busy.
Virginia found serendipity (also known as cheap beer) in Thailand while Chris went to Jazz Camp (which is like band camp without the flute soloists). Les dug up 13 year old Pokemon graves (escaping assumed murder charges) and drank 10 year old scotch. Lucas cleaned gutters and made beats for white rappers and Matt read Dave Grohl’s biography and planned the next 395 years of his life. I guess you could say they’re all multi-taskers.
Now back in the studio recording their second EP, the band is percolating and new music is brewing. PaperTrails is excited to charm Vancity’s decaffeinated music scene and prepare for their upcoming tour in 2015.
