About Disasteradio
Disasteradio is Wellington's Luke Rowell. Desribing his music as "electrock", his sound has a self-conciously nerdy, retro-future aesthetic that is reminiscent of Kraftwerk and Thomas Dolby (but significantly more upbeat and danceable).
Rowell's career began in at the end of the millennium, when he made "quite a stir on mp3.com and IUMA [Internet Underground Music Archive]."
Despite several albums, his following is essentially underground. Only Synthtease has been mass-produced, and according to his NZMusic.com biography, "Every DISASTERADIO release has and always will be available for free mp3 download somewhere."
Disasteradio's popularity has been steadily increasing; he is a firm part Wellington's uber-cool 'Electro-Sexual' scene. His recent appearance at music impresario Ian Jorgensen's first-ever Camp A Low Hum (part of a popular live performance fixture for up-and-coming New Zealand artists) and focus feature on the party website neonsleep.com exemplifies this.
Y2K+6, his new album, is set to be released soon.
