Great Spirit

From the San Francisco Bay Area, Great Spirit combines equal parts bluegrass, folk and funk that characterize a distinctive sound. The blend of songwriting and musical experimentation, drawing on a of a wide variety of influences and channeled through individual lenses of the bands members, has helped Great Spirit pioneer a sound uniquely its own; conveniently self-entitled ‘crystal grass.’ The band itself formed organically. During an annual bluegrass festival in June 2014 Tom, Will and Peter laid out a rough plan to record an album the following week. Days later the group emerged with their first EP, Front Porch to Frontier, and followed up the recording session with a run of shows up and down the California coast. What began as a short run of shows continued through the fall and winter, with Great Spirit playing throughout the Bay Area and beyond. Through the course of extensive recording and gigging Great Spirit has continued to solidify it’s sound, culminating in the upcoming release of “Searching For A Legend,” the bands debut, full-length album. The album, to be released this summer, is a crossroads of the bands individual backgrounds; a meeting ground where driving bluegrass chances with psychedelic tones, characteristic songwriting and beyond. Great Spirit is Will Durkee, Peter Domenici and Tom Conneely, as well as a rotating catalogue of drummers. Together they create a common ground unique in the world of music.
