Seth Shaw

Seth Shaw is a guitarist from San Antonio, Texas. Seth runs a traditional post-bop style jazz band. The group performs as either a trio, quartet, or quintet based on the needs of the event. Starting as a small jazz combo at Texas Lutheran University (where Seth studied music education) as an experiment, the main goal of the group was to jam. After a year of performing all over central Texas, the group has become much more. Inspired by jazz greats Wes Montgomery and Miles Davis, Seth started to develop his own sound. Seth and his group consistently perform at jazz clubs, corporate events, private parties, and a variety of venues around central Texas.

The band is managed by Seth. The band is led on stage by Seth on guitar and backed by Jorion Dawson (saxophone), Cory Fey (piano), Anderson Roy (double bass), and Kelvin Gast (drums). This group can be heard on their newest album entitled “On Time with the Seth Shaw Quintet” which was recorded in January 2020 at Matador Recording Studios in San Antonio. The Seth Shaw Quintet's sound is most similar to the great jazz guitarist Wes Montgomery; whom Seth listens to and studies often. Other similar artists include: Julian Lage, Miles Davis, Sonny Stitt, Lester Young, Sonny Rollins, John Coltrane, Joe Pass and many others. Everyone in the group studies or studied music education or music performance at a major university. Jazz is alive and well in central Texas, and Seth Shaw and his group are keeping the flame of traditional jazz alive.
