About Mississippi John Hurt

"Mississippi" John Hurt was born in Carroll County Mississippi in 1892. His first recordings were made in 1928 for OKeh records, but faded into obscurity not long after. It wasn't until the blues revival of the 1960s that Hurt gained much of his recognition. His soft spoken and gentle vocal style lends itself well to the folk music he plays, but he is a skilled blues and bluegrass musician as well. His influence spans many genres, from country to contemporary rock and roll.
