Shanghai

This is Ric Martelino. Born in our nation's capitol, Washington D.C., lived there up to first grade then moved to Portsmouth, Ohio. Loved music since I was a kid, about 5 yrs. old, studied piano, briefly. I took to the drums instantly, my uncle played drums and I would get behind them and make noise, kinda like now? Had a couple of bands in high school, playing pool parties and backyard parties, we would always have the cops called on us for being too loud, go figure. Played on the road with an established band out of the southern Ohio area called KNIGHTS AND DAZE, which later became ACT-1, in the mid 80's (86-88). Moved to Columbus after meeting Bryon Shepherd in Lima, Ohio and formed SHANGHAI, which disbanded round 1990-91. Met Rikki Soga and Jimmy Miller and jammed and reformed SHOCK TU, with Timmy Owings on vocals. This last classic version went from 91-94. Check out the web site. I moved away and had a hiatus of 6 years, which I call my DARK PERIOD, due to a failed marriage. Moved back to Columbus in 2007. Played 1 year with THE FRANK HARRISON GROUP. David Shawn Ruppert has been playing bass guitar, guitar, writing and singing since he was eleven years old. His original music varies in style as much as his influences vary, he loves music! Whether playing original or cover material, he immerses himself into the emotions of the song, capturing the feel, the mood, the groove. Shawn has played in numerous cover bands and all original bands since the early 1980’s. The first being a local band put together with friends, Guitarist Bryon Shepherd and Don Cole called Ruffian. Shanghai's conception with Bryon and Ric Martelino followed. Performing numerous clubs through out Ohio and several other States, Shawn has gained invaluable knowledge and experience performing in front of thousands of fans. Shawn’s exuberance for music shines in his on stage performances. Shawn is currently performing with another childhood friend "Spaz", in "The SpazMasters ", a Lima, Ohio area based group. Shawn is also working with Bryon and Ric once again with more information to follow.....
