The Banjo Consorsium

Le projet musical The Banjo ConsorSium a débuté au cours de l’hiver 2005 à Sherbrooke. Au départ, le son du Banjo ConsorSium fut créé par le multi-instrumentiste Jacques-Philippe Lemieux Leblanc. Des musiciens sherbrookois de différents milieux se sont joint au Banjo: Gabriel Lemieux-Maillé et Marco Gosselin. Le mixe de talents nous offre des sonorités plus acoustiques, organiques et festives. Grâce au pouvoir de diffusion d’Internet, le groupe a obtenu une certaine reconnaissance internationale à la suite de son premier enregistrement Le Début en décembre 2005; la participation du Banjo ConsorSium à deux compilations canadiennes (If you believe et we believe vol.2 sur 9.12 records), une compilation japonaise (Schole vol.1), une compilation anglaise (Catch The Falling Leaves) et deux compilations allemandes (Electronica Unplugged d’Aerotone et Entactogen – Voices de Mixotic) le démontre bien. Le deuxième enregistrement du Banjo, A Turning One, a été nominé pour l’album expérimental de l’année au Gala Gamiq 2007 et a amené le groupe à se produire à plusieurs reprises devant public; outre les spectacles offerts sur les scènes montréalaise et québécoise, le groupe a inauguré la saison 2007-2008 du Centaniel et rempli le Théâtre Granada . The Banjo ConsorSium a acquis une solide expérience sur scène et offre un spectacle bien rodé. A l’automne 2008, est sortie une version remixée de leur premier album « A Remixed One ». Dix artistes et groupes dont plusieurs noms de l'électronique, Akido, Millimetrik, Pheek, Apjiw, Vitaminsforyou... ont repris et agencé les musiques du Banjo. The Banjo Consorsium began in 2005 as a studio project led by multi-instrumentalist Japh. Born in a musician family(his father a jazz guitarist and mother a singer and pianist), he started playing music when he was 5 years old, learning both cello and piano. From punk to folk, prog, techno and electronica, his taste for different genres combine in this neo-folk electronic mix. The project obtained international notoriety with both of it’s albums, A Turning One, and the subsequent remix compilation, titled A remixed one. Directed by Japh‘s refined ear, the band has benefited from serious rotations in Canada in Europe, as the band’s myspace page can attest.Currently in pre-production for a third album, the Banjo Consorsium doesn’t cease to impress and satisfy the ear of a growing number of folktronic amateur, a style that crosses folk music (notably with the use of banjo’s, mandolins) and the use of modern production techniques, including sampling.The outfit must, however, be seen live, as they evolve onstage in a different direction then on album, as the material becomes more dynamic and open, musically speaking. http://thebanjoconsorsium.bandcamp.com
