About Mama's Jasje

Mama’s Jasje was founded in 1990 in it’s original formation: Peter Vanlaet, Ben Destrycker, Herman Van Molle and Steven De Corte. After a successful scouting from label “Play That Beat”, they are offered a record deal. Their first radio hits are “Morgen zal het anders zijn” and “God In Frankrijk”.
The real success story of Mama’s Jasje begins after the monster hit “Zo Ver Weg” and the following full CD “Paradijs op Aarde”, which both turn platina almost instantly.
The second album, “Letters en Lawaai” is also a number one hit. After the third album, the original formation ceases to exist in 1993. In the same year Mama’s Jasje is reborn when lead singer Peter Vanlaet finds a soul mate in Gunter Van Campenhout. In the meantime they build a fantastic reputation as a live band and they perform on many festivals like Marktrock (Leuven) and Maanrock (Mechelen).
In 1996 Peter Vanlaet takes a break from Mama’s Jasje to write an autobiographic solo-album, “Hartslag”.
In 1997 Mama’s Jasje has a golden idea: revive the old Dutch pop songs in an up-to-date version. The success is instantly and the group releases hit singles like “Als de Dag van Toen”, which remains at the top of the hit list for 16 successive weeks. The following full CD “Hommages” is a tribute to all heroes from Peter and Gunter in the music business. One CD turned out not to be enough, and “Hommages II” confirms the success of the first tribute CD. Thanks to these albums, Mama’s Jasje is able to play at all important festivals in Flanders that summer.
To celebrate a decade of Mama’s Jasje, the sixth album “Pop Model” is released early 2000.
After more than 14 number one hits, Gunter Van Campenhout leaves the group in 2002 after the success of his other band “Spark” (with girlfriend Claudia Decaluwé) in the Eurovision Song Contest. His successor in Mama’s Jasje is Peter’s brother Jan Vanlaet. The first single of Mama’s Jasje in it’s new formation is “Ik mis je zo”. In 2004-2005 the group plays at many events, festivals and concerts to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the group. After that, Mama’s Jasje goes in hibernation while Peter Vanlaet tours with his off-the-beaten-track repertoire “Helden Van Vanlaet” with adaptations of songs from all his international heroes.
In 2007 Mama’s Jasje makes once more a comeback. Peter and Gunther pick up where they left off in 2002 and release in may 2007 the third volume of “Hommages”. On their brand new single, “Niets zonder Jou”, they sing together with a capella band “Voice Male”.
