About Telvin

Önemli konserleri: 2011 Kapadokya Caz Festivali 2011 Izmir Avrupa Caz Festivali 2010 ODTÜ Vişnelik Konseri 2009 Alanya Caz Festivali 2009 Antalya Film Festivali 2006 Cemal Reşit Rey (CRR) 2006 Ingiltere (Londra) Queen Elizabeth 2005 Almanya (Essen) 2004 New York, Jazz Made in Turkey, ABD 1998 North Sea Jazz Festival, Hollanda 1995 Houston, Texas ABD 1995 New Orleans, Luisiana, ABD *** Erkan Oğur: Guitar Turgut Alp Bekoğlu: Drums İlkin Deniz: Bass Telvin is an Anatolian Blues band that places a mixture of ethnic folk music and traditional Turkish themes at the heart of its sound. The band brings together traditional folk music with rock, blues and contemporary jazz genres in an extraordinary musical experiment that produces a magical Anatolian Blues and Jazz sound. There is a vibrant inspiration from European jazz with a deep impact of 1970s rock and jazz fusion. Each musician’s individual skills and passion have been distilled and melded into the band’s compositions. This individualism combined with virtuoso technique has helped them create their very own unique sound. Literally Telvin means changing colors but it is used to express the change of the state of consciousness in sufist philosophy. However, it has been chosen by Erkan Oğur, Turgut Alp Bekoğlu and İlkin Deniz to name their journey together. Telvin strated its journey in Istanbul in 1995. Besides their popularity within the Jazz and Blues scene in Turley, the trio was greatly appreciated during their early international appearances in Houston and New Orleans. After a period of playing together the band started featuring numerous talented musicians who play traditional folk instruments. These features have greatly inspired the band to combine traditional folk music and jazz. Enriched by diversified improvisations these features have created a magical tone that filled the gaps between traditional folk and contemporary jazz music. After years of hard work, long studio nights and many concerts Telvin released their first album that had the same name as the band. Telvin is a band that has succeed in bringing together the music of this geography and its deep heritage with jazz music and has captivated a huge audience during its performances. The success of Erkan Oğur not only on fretless guitar but also with traditional string instruments is evident in the album. Important Concerts: 2011 Capadocia Jazz Festival, Turkey 2011 Izmir Europe Jazz Festival, Turkey 2010 METU Festival, Akara, Turkey 2009 Alanya Jazz Fest, val, Turkey 2009 Antalya Film Festival, Turkey 2006 Cemal Reşit Rey, Istanbul, Turkey 2006 Queen Elizabeth Hall, England 2005 Essen, Germany 2004 New York, Jazz Made in Turkey, USA 1998 North Sea Jazz Festival, Holland 1995 Houston, Texas, USA 1995 New Orleans, Luisiana, USA Members: Erkan Oğur Erkan Oğur is a pioneer of fretless guitars, he invented the first fretless classical guitar in 1976. He has mesmerized music lovers with the fretless guitar he designed and built nearly 30 years ago. His unique sound combines ethnic folk music and traditional Turkish themes with rock, blues and contemporary jazz. Erkan plays traditional lutes and various types of guitar, acoustic and electric, fretted and fretless, all with the same sense of perfectionism. Erkan Oğur invented the fretless guitar to be able to obtain Turkish melodies within the Turkish musical system. He has also invented a Bağlama, a traditional ethnic instrument, with six double or single strings; and a doublesided Bağlama, with two different tunings. Turgut Alp Bekoğlu Turgut Alp Bekoğlu has been a notable figure on the international music scene for years. While his heart has always been steeped in the jazz tradition, his virtuosity has allowed him to accompany numerous Turkish pop stars in the 1980s. Turgut has performed at various international festivals and influenced an entire new generation of Turkish drummers with his percussion knowledge and technique. İlkin Deniz Living and working in the United States as an artist and graphic designer İlkin Deniz, is comparatively new in the European and Turkish musical scene. However, Ilkin has played alongside many reputable Turkish musicians and singers and his skills on acoustic and electric bass are admired in inner circles. He has a strong reputation in jazz circles of east coast USA. *** Telvin is Anatolian Blues Band.
