About J-Law Soul Violinist

J-Law Soul Violinist (Jonathan Lawrence) is a classically trained jazz violinist located in Southwest Florida. He began studying violin at the age of 9. During his high school career, he developed his classical training by performing with a variety of college and youth orchestras. At that time, he also became musically involved with two other African American violin players, leading into his first experience of being in a band. Later he became the student of Routa Kromouvitch (student of David Oistrakh) at Stetson University where he earned a bachelor's in Music Education with a focus in Violin Performance. During his studies, he traveled as a student performer throughout Italy,Wales, and England. After college, J-Law both began his career as a music teacher and a classical/jazz violinist. He performed as a sub violinist with the Southwest Florida Symphony and the Gulf Coast Symphony. Though many may call him a jazz violinist, J-Law rarely performs traditional jazz music. He's performed folk, bluegrass, rock, soul, hip hop, reggae, pop, funk, and indie music throughout the years. He’s collaborated with great artists such as Freedom Hall, Kat Epple, Russian River, Mario Arnez, Frankie Colt, Lisa Sadorian, Katy Schirard, The Lost Rodeo, Tom Gibson, Brian Jackson, Raquel Tingley, and many more. He currently performs with a trio called The Sweet Tease and a full Indie Rock band called Modern Mystic. Though J-Law performs with a variety of groups, this page is dedicated to J-Law Soul Violinist as a solo artist. The music he creates utilizes his skills as a violinist, guitarist, vocalist, pianist, and improvisationalist to create music unbound by genres. For his current upcoming album, "The Lonely Warrior", he often uses a loop pedal to manifest the music in his head. Regardless of the style of music he is performing, if you listen closely, you will began to hear the sounds of his soul. J-Law (aka: Jonathan Lawrence) is a soulful violinist who resides in the Southwest Florida area.
