Callistus

"Avant-Garde and Disregard" has been the motto since day one. It represents the cutting edge and unorthodox approach that Callistus takes towards his art and music. Born in Newark, NJ, and raised in East Orange, Callistus grew up with New York City serving as his backdrop. And it would prove to be the perfect place to raise and nurture a natural born creative. After attending Phillips Andover Academy for high school and later receiving his B.A. in Economics (with minors in English and Theatre Studies) from the University of Connecticut, Callistus chose to pursue a career in the arts. Put simply, an artist is who he was, so an artist is who he became. Starting out as an actor, Callistus landed roles in Manhattan theater productions and bit parts in television and film before transitioning and focusing more of his attention and creative energy on the process of making music. Over the course of 2012, Callistus recorded his first project "AddVice", a 9 track EP which debuted on February 3, 2013, marking an aggressively bold and defiant arrival in the music game. Forever on a quest to get better, Callistus went right back to work on what would come to be his follow up release, "I's Closed". Made available on August 18th, 2014, "I's Closed" is a 17 track feature that includes original production from industry veteran and platinum selling producer Woodro Skillson (Headbanga Muzik) in addition to newcomers Kareem George, StonedSoundz, and Flow Rogan. On "I's Closed", Callistus shines as an artist expertly mixing classic lyricism, dynamic songwriting, and catchy melodies over genre-bending, new wave production, ending in the creation of an album and a lane that is uniquely his own.
