About Plastica

- “Baby Gasoline” was the song that revealed Plastica to the Portuguese mainstream musical industry. It was selected to be the single for the Optimus 2000 project; “Baby Gasoline” reached 1 at the tops and was the most played song of the year on the Portuguese airplay charts. - 2000 - Plastica were chosen to be the special opening act for bands like: Oasis, James and The Cranberries at the Sony Plaza and the Atlantic Pavillion. - The highlight in 2001 happened on the main stage from “Vilar de Mouros Summer Festival” where the band played side by side with Alanis Morrissette and Sonic Youth. - Plastica signs a record deal for 4 albums with the Portuguese major label, EMI Records. - The band records their debut album dor EMI - “Pop Songs & Rock People” produced by Rick Peet who had previously worked with bands such as Muse, Charlatans and Six by Seven. - At the end of 2001, the band was invited to be the special guest opening act at the Lisbon Coliseum and Porto Coliseum for James on their last world tour. - “Sleep all day” EP was released trough EMI. - “Sleep all day” went 1 on the Portuguese charts and was the song with most airplay of 2002! - The band goes on tour promoting their debut album with more than 90 live shows all over the country. Interviews, press, radio; special TV appearances took the band to the limelight including the performance at the “Sudoeste Summer Festival” side by side with bands like Muse and The Cure. - “Honey Honey” was the 2nd single taken from “Pop Songs & Rock People”. - Plastica are the special guest opening act on tour for Suede. - “Sleep all day” is the single chosen to be released on the well known compilation “NOW 6” along side bands like Cold Play and U2… - Creative incompatibilities with EMI Records led the band to a new record deal with the Portuguese independent label Metro Records. - Plastica goes to studio to record the 2nd album at the “Red Light Studios” – the band..s spiritual bunker. “The Red Light Underground” is the name of the album that shows Plastica at their best creative point on their career. The 15 songs reveal a new concept of making a CD release. A split CD with two sides just like the old fashion vinyl records. - “Bugs and Astronauts” and “Around” are the singles taken from “The Red Light Underground”. - 2004 is the international year for Plastica, and the band played at the “International Pop Overthrow ” Festival in Liverpool – UK at the famous and mythical The Cavern Club where The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Eric Clapton made their first appearances. - The band signs a record deal with the Spanish independent label Liliput Records, and The Red Light Tour goes on the road at the most important Spanish clubs. - “Boys, Girls & Toys” is the song chosen to be on “INDI * RADIO ” compilation of the most important international new bands of the moment released by the Spanish label El Diablo Records. - The band signs a major deal with Clippers Music – one of the most important publishing agencies in the world, that works with artists like The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd or David Bowie... - October 2006 the band goes to studio for the next album - “Kaleidoscope”, with the hand from producer Masaki Liu from The Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, at his own Onewaystudios in San Francisco / California. - 2007 - “Kaleidoscope” Is released in Portugal by Rewind Records and in Spain by Liliput Records. - Two singles - “United Lonely People” and “Memory Lane” where taken from the “Kaleidoscope” album of 13 songs in a 69 minutes psychedelic trip and a hidden track. - The Kaleidoscope Tour went through Portugal and Spain, through clubs, theaters and festivals, being the highlight performance at the Alive Festival with The Smashing Pumpkins and The White Stripes. - 2008 - The band signs with german label Alive, getting the “Kaleidoscope” album released in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. - During the extended Kaleidoscope Tour the band recorded a new set of songs for a new album. “Lovers” is the chosen name for the new feature with the help from the Producer Jeff Lipton at the Peerless Studios in Boston – USA, who worked with artists like Bob Dylan, Magnetic Fields, Wilco, Gossip, Ladytron, and other SubPop Label artists. - “Lovers” features some special guest Star musicians like the american blues master Doug Macleod, Sidonie from Spain, Nistal and the psychedelic masters Saturnia. - “Under The Neon Lights” is the advanced single from the “Lovers” album that shows Plastica in a more mature and focused way of composing at their best record ever without a doubt! - With a career of almost 10 years, the band schedules the “Lovers” auditorium tour between november and january of 2009 to present the new album and a retrospective of the best songs from their 5 records in the last 10 years of making great music. - Plastica are currently working on new songs
