About Matt Winson
Matt Winson is a Dutch/Latvian indie folk band. The band initially was a collaboration between singer/songwriter Matthijs Steur and multi-instrumentalist Pieter van Winsen. Searching for a richer and more dynamic sound, the band expanded with drummer Thomas van Winsen and in late 2014 with Latvian trumpet player Magnuss Baugis. Gradually, the band has developed a distinctive sound built around vocal harmonies, thought-provoking lyrics and a wide range of instruments. Matt Winson creates accessible, progressive folk music that incorporates elements of bluegrass, jazz and pop. In July 2015 they released their first EP "Glowing Eyes" with a sold out show at Gebr. de Nobel in Leiden. The EP was selected for the 3voor12 luisterpaal and got airplay on 3fm and Radio 1. After that an international tour through Germany, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia followed. In the beginning of 2016 the band signed a record deal with V2 Records Benelux and recorded their first album - titled "Woodfalls" - in the renowned Wisseloord Studios, collaborating with producer Frederic Gervais and Grammy award winning mixing engineer Balazs Robert. The first single "The River" was presented in August, followed by a second single "Into Pieces" in late December; the album itself was released on February 10, 2017.
