About Dook Dootson
Dook Dootson And The Flightless Birds
Back in 2013 Dook Dootson met producer Tom Loffman at a now defunct residential studio in North Wales known as Bryn Derwen. They spent a week working on three tracks (“One Final Moment”, “Follow You” & “Calling All”) which became the first official Dook Dootson EP – “A Path To Trace”.
During the session the two of them struck up a strong musical connection and realized a mutual respect for grunge and folk artists - they decided it would be a good idea to continue working together.
They swiftly organized a European tour with Tom on piano/organ and Dook on acoustic guitar and vocals – presented by Tonetoaster Records. It was a great little folk acoustic duo but they were keen to match the scale and power of the EP. They recruited bass player Stephen Reddan and piano/organ player Aaron Bolli-Thompson while Tom moved to drum duties and Dook went electric. The new lineup sounded as big as planned - there was finally enough density in the music to accommodate Dooks powerful voice. The new sound still had Dooks folk influenced song writing but with the energy of grunge and the inclusion of overdriven organ provided the sound with best of both of those worlds.
After starting working with CR MUSIC Management in January 2016 they went back out on tour, this time with Miwi La Lupa for company, playing some great shows in Paris, Brussels and Berlin. Fresh from tour they went straight into the studio to record the next EP.
“A Picture In Time” focusses on sheer size with big choruses and soaring climaxes on tracks like “Time Flies” and “Dead and Gone”. The folk aspect of Dook Dootsons songwriting comes through with “When It Rains” but still keeps the energy up. The one area of calm on the EP is “Sunshine and Stars” but doesn’t fail to pack a punch for the final chorus. The EP closes with the ever-evolving “Blue Sea Blues” and features yet another monumental climax to round off.
“A Picture In Time” was released on 29th of September 2016.
