About Waor

WAOR, Michael, Lil’ Munee, whatever you choose to call him, make sure you mention that he's a Flintstone for life! Michael T. Gilbert, born Sep. of “91” in Flint, MI., was raised on the city's eastside. The east of Flint was a grimy side of town, filled with drugs and prostitution, it was hard not to become a product of your environment. Being raised on Colorado and Mabel ave, he still overcame the obstacles thrown his way and It wasn't long before he realized that music ran his world, music that he created. The chase for his dreams to become reality began in “04” when Michael began to produce his work and chose the name Lil’ Munee (money) as his stage name. Together with a close childhood friend he formed a rap group called The Urban Legend Boyz (ULB). ULB consisted of 3 members, "Lil’ Munee" of course, Devon Cooper as "Dz", and later Dz’s younger brother Dustin as "Quicks." These 3 who were family, set out to follow their dreams, not bothered by any competition and destined to become Flint-Town legends! ULB began to perform locally in Flint, Detroit, Lansing, and Ann Arbor. They also in “09” released 2 mixtapes and an album “The Epidemic”. Local fame rose high and quick for the 3, people knew their name and music, but tragedy would soon hit this joyful experience for ULB and dramatically change their lives forever. Dustin (Quicks), was shot and killed in a robbery shortly after the release of their 1st album. Quicks fell into the murderous environment of Flint, by just being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Not long after his brothers murder and right before the release of the groups second album "20Twelve Vol:1" Devon (Dz) was incarcerated, and now with a double album shelved, and no direction, Michael found himself alone and needing to reevaluate everything. Michael laid ULB to rest, loyal to his crew there was no replacing the original members. He began to get himself together and continue his dream of producing music. He was a new man with new aspirations, new fears, new missions, and new goals. His lyrics now reflected his pain, confusion, and struggle but also the hope he felt inside. This was the beginning of WAOR, the beginning of a new life chapter. WAOR, pronounced just like the word war, represents the fight that so many of us endure including Michael. “We all have our own wars we fight, but through my music we can fight them together” states Michael “ together we can stand against any obstacles thrown our way”! In 2017 He will be co-founding a Media Branding Company to release all further WAOR media including (Music, videos, and Images), there will be a Full length album tentatively called "If the Shoe Fits" (which currently features Bone Crusher, Bootleg, Jason Derulo, Joey Cough, Josh Mckay, and more!), and touring throughout the state!
