The Connells

Fantastic set. Crowd and venue were excellent.

I was really excited to see these guys after so many years, regardless of age. I wasn't expecting the Connells of 1995, but I have to say I was pretty disappointed. The band itself was clean and didn't seem to have lost much. The Connell brothers still have their deft touch on strings. However, I'm concerned about Doug MacMillan, the lead singer. Right from the start he appeared lost and almost confused, as if he had forgotten the lyrics. Someone gave him a tambourine to rattle, although it didn't seem to help. At one point, about 6 songs into the set, there was some sort of on-stage intervention, and Bobby Houck, lead singer of Blue Dogs came in to support on vocals, but the damage was done. It was an awkward situation that prompted others in my group to call it a night. My ride was leaving and I couldn't convince them or myself to stay. All that said, I still will wear my new Connells t-shirt with pride. Great band, bad night. Side note: The Refinery is a great spot!

The back sounded good and played a lot of their classics. Good interaction with the crowd. Transported me back in time

Loved the show as usual! The Connells are awesome, just so much energy and fun! The venue was fantastic but a little harsh on new folk not knowing what is off limits with vip areas. Otherwise LOVED IT!!

Great show. Johnny Irion was good. Dillon Fence was fantastic. Thought The Connells played with good energy. Surprised at some songs they played and some that were left out. Running Mary was awesome. The whole encore was rocking. Travelled 12 hours to see them after having been a fan since 1991.

First time seeing them live..not disappointed. Fantastic show, Most tunes 30-40 years old in no way dated..Great vocals and musicianship Hope to see them in either DMV or Chapel Hill again very soon.

Band still sounds incredible. Doug was hammered and only sang half the words. Not the best I’ve seen.

They ALWAYS put on an amazing performance

Good venue. Audience was into it. Band kicked a*s. Lots of standout songs. The opening band Surrender human was very enjoyable with great harmonies

Doug’s vocals sounded rejuvenated. Keyboard and drums and additional guitar added to the stalwarts and new cuts were solid. Overall a religious experience seeing Connells live again

It was great to hear these songs again. I saw this band many times in the 90s. The band didn't use tracks and autotune, completely live. The venue has great sound. The new album fits right into their catalog and translated live. Can't wait to see them again.

Good mix of old a new

The Connells put on a great show! They sound great and clearly love playing for their fans. Their new CD 'Steadman's Wake' is strong and their older songs have held up well and sound great live! See them in concert if you ever get the chance.

They can still put on an incredible show after all these years. I look forward to the next time.
