About Adelphi

Heralding from Sheffield’s thriving local music scene is Adelphi. Taking the name from the abandoned cinema and nightclub in Attercliffe, during the summer of 2014 while the sun was briefly shining, local singer songwriters Matt Longden & Ollie King brought together their vocals and guitars to form the band. Quickly recruiting Charlie Bentham and non-official member Richard Hunter, on bass and drums respectively, to play their debut show at that summer’s Tramlines festival.

Alongside this, was the online release of their first track ‘Hip Shaker’, which was described by the Indiependent as ‘exciting, upbeat, and truly rock n roll’. With popularity quickly growing the band went on to perform at a number of local venues including the showcase ‘Propa Local’ and had success with their follow up online release ‘Ego Tamer’.

As 2015 rolled around the band appeared at a number of intimate venues across the north of England, which they followed with the official release of the track ‘Firing Line’ recorded at 2Fly Studios in Sheffield with Dave Sanderson. To celebrate the release Joe Green (Milburn, Dead Sons) invited the band to perform at The Riverside in Kelham Island.

The debut single has received local radio support, as well as being aired by Steve Lamacq on BBC 6 Music, after a chance encounter. The band also secured notable support slots with ‘Frankie and The Heartstrings’ and ‘The Ordinary Boys’, and a match day performance at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium.

This year they aim to build on this momentum by performing across the festival circuit, and beyond.
